Shannon and Brad are huge St. Louis Cardinals fans. The game of baseball has provided so many amazing moments for them as a couple, that when they decided to get married, they wanted to make sure their favorite team played a part in their union as man and wife.  They were married on a warm April day in 2013, back in Shannon’s hometown in Indiana.  Let’s hear from the bride …

“Brad and I pretty much fell in love at Busch Stadium, where the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. We went to countless games while dating and spent many nights cuddling under the ball park lights, cheering for our team, eating lots of hot dogs, and holding on to our hopes and dreams for the Cardinals to make it to the World Series. As a couple, the majority of our time was spent doing something related to sports, all sports, whether it be attending a game, watching a game on TV, listening to a game on the radio, or talking about a game. So, when Brad proposed, we knew right away that our wedding should be centered around one of the things that brought us so close together, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. We decided we would have to have our wedding in Indiana due to the locations of all of our family and friends…but that didn’t stop us from bringing St. Louis to Indiana.”

Their wedding was brilliantly photographed by Elizabeth Reynolds Hinds

For their wedding ceremony, the couple managed to effortlessly blend the traditional elements of the service with some subtle nods to our national past time.  Borrowing from the St. Louis Cardinals color scheme, the bridesmaids wore cardinal red dresses from Demetrios and the groomsmen wore matching red vests and bow ties from the Men’s Wearhouse.  The bridesmaids also carried white flowers, while the bride carried a red and white bridal bouquet designed to look like a baseball.  The bouquets were provided by Plainfield Florist.

As gifts for the groomsmen, each was given a pair of St. Louis Cardinals socks from MLB.com, with the exception of one.  As a Cubs fan he refused to wear anything connected with the St. Louis Cardinals. The groomsmen were also given mini baseball bats that were engraved with their name and their role in the wedding.

Even the kids got into the action, as the ring bearer lobbed foam baseballs into the crowd, while the flower girls dropped rose petals. Finally, as a guest favor for the ceremony itself, the couple provided a custom designed rally towel for each guest.

Shannon and Brad continued their St. Louis Cardinals wedding theme into the wedding reception, which was held at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis, IN.  Guests were treated to a wedding reception that included baseball themed table centerpieces and even ball park themed snacks that were served later in the evening.  From the save the dates, custom wedding invitations, and game day programs created by SportsThemedWeddings, to the Cardinals themed wedding cake, created by Cakes by Donna, guests were treated to a wedding experience unlike any other.  DJ services were provided by Rock Star DJ’s.

“Our cake had two cardinal birds as the cake topper and was held up with baseballs between the tiers. We used red sand and baseballs to fill our vases on the table for centerpieces. We allowed our DJ to wear a St. Louis Cardinals Jersey during the reception, and offered popcorn and mini hot dogs as a snack later in the evening.

“Our tables were named after famous Cardinals baseball players, and our DJ really helped to incorporate the baseball theme into the wedding. We did an improvised version of the “Kiss Cam” which is famous at sporting events, and sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” with all of our guest prior to eating dinner. The photo booth from Happy Snaps Photo booth, also featured a set up that included our baseball theme.”

“Our wedding was truly elegant, but at the same time, so much fun! We had many of our guests say that it was one of the most favorite weddings they had ever attended. It is a day/night, that we will never forget. We recently welcomed a little one into our lives and at the early age of three months, he attended his first St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Game.”
